Choose a model, state its assumptions and check dimensions.
Draw the forces acting on the object and choose a direction before writing an equation. The net force determines acceleration. Work depends on the force component along displacement, while kinetic energy depends on speed squared. State whether the simple constant-force model applies.
F_net = ma; K = ½mv²; W = Fs cosθ for a constant force
A 2 kg object accelerating at 3 m/s² experiences a net force of 6 N. At a speed of 4 m/s it has kinetic energy ½ × 2 × 4² = 16 J.
The net force is the vector sum of all forces, not necessarily the largest force. Doubling speed quadruples kinetic energy.
For an ohmic resistor under fixed physical conditions, voltage and current are proportional. Track whether circuit components are in series or parallel before simplifying them. For waves, distinguish propagation speed from the motion of an individual particle of the medium.
V = IR; wave speed v = fλ
A resistor carrying 2 A with a 12 V potential difference has resistance 6 Ω. A wave with frequency 50 Hz and wavelength 2 m travels at 100 m/s.
Do not use the same current through every branch of a parallel circuit. Frequency, wavelength and speed have different units.
Connect particle counts, mass and solution quantities with their units.
Convert between mass and amount of substance using molar mass. Molarity is the amount of solute per litre of solution, not per litre of solvent. Keep the chemical identity and units explicit, especially when comparing substances with different molar masses.
n = mass / molar mass; molarity = moles of solute / litres of solution
36 g of water corresponds to 36/18 = 2 mol using a molar mass of 18 g/mol. Dissolving 0.5 mol of solute to make 2 L of solution gives a molarity of 0.25 mol/L.
Convert millilitres to litres before calculating molarity. Equal masses of different substances need not contain equal numbers of moles.
Atomic number counts protons. Mass number counts protons plus neutrons for a particular isotope. A neutral atom has the same number of electrons as protons; ion formation changes electron count rather than changing the element’s atomic number.
Neutrons = mass number − atomic number
An atom with atomic number 11 and mass number 23 has 11 protons and 12 neutrons. As a neutral atom it has 11 electrons; a singly positive ion has 10.
Do not subtract the atomic number from an average atomic mass to claim an exact isotope neutron count.
Name the rule before applying it, then verify the result where possible.
A derivative describes local rate of change. A definite integral accumulates signed contributions over an interval. Identify the variable, apply the relevant rule, and substitute limits only after finding an antiderivative when using the fundamental theorem of calculus.
d(x^n)/dx = nx^(n−1); ∫_a^b f(x)dx = F(b) − F(a)
For f(x) = 3x² + 2x, f′(x) = 6x + 2 and f′(1) = 8. Also, ∫ from 0 to 2 of 3x dx = [3x²/2] from 0 to 2 = 6.
The integral over an interval is not generally the value of the integrand at the upper limit. Check signs when subtracting endpoint values.
For a quadratic with a non-zero leading coefficient, the sum and product of roots follow from the coefficients. The discriminant identifies the nature of the roots. Substitute a proposed root back into the original polynomial as a quick check.
For ax² + bx + c = 0: α + β = −b/a; αβ = c/a; discriminant = b² − 4ac
For x² − 5x + 6 = 0, the roots sum to 5 and multiply to 6, so they are 2 and 3. Both satisfy the equation on substitution.
Preserve the minus sign in −b/a. A positive sum of roots does not imply that every coefficient is positive.
Separate lengths, areas and volumes and identify the shape before using a formula. Draw the labelled dimensions. A diagram may not be to scale, so use stated relationships rather than visual estimates. In coordinate or algebraic work, check whether a result is physically meaningful.
Rectangle: A = lw; circle: A = πr²; circle circumference = 2πr
A circle of radius 7 cm has area 49π cm² and circumference 14π cm. If a diameter of 14 cm is supplied, divide it by two before using the radius-based formulas.
Using the diameter as the radius makes a circle’s calculated area four times too large.
Subjects, practice formats & answer review
JEE Main Paper 1 preparation requires understanding how a physical model, chemical relation or mathematical method applies to a question. This page provides foundation-to-intermediate Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics MCQ practice. Use it to check formula use, units and algebra before moving to more demanding chapter work and complete official-format past papers.
Explore JEE Main tests and practice setsPractise applications of force, motion, kinetic energy, resistance and waves. Write the governing relation first, substitute consistent units and test whether the result has the correct dimensions.
Revise mole calculations, atomic structure and solution concentration through the available numerical MCQs. Connect each formula to its meaning and add wider physical, organic and inorganic chemistry study.
Review derivatives, definite integrals and quadratic-root relations. State the rule being used and check the result by substitution or an alternative method where possible.
The practice series has 25 MCQs per PCM subject, 75 questions and 180 minutes in a full mock, with +4 correct and −1 incorrect. It is not a complete official simulator: all playable questions here are MCQs, while official Paper 1 also contains numerical-answer questions.
Use a past paper to understand question wording and topic balance, and a generated drill to practise a concept. Check the source label before treating a resource as an authentic examination paper. Official model papers, third-party collections and memory-based reconstructions have different purposes. For syllabus, eligibility, dates and recruitment rules, refer to Official JEE Main website.
This practice hub currently uses MCQs throughout. Use the linked past-paper resources for the complete Paper 1 format, including numerical-answer questions.
They are foundation-to-intermediate exercises intended to reinforce concepts and formula applications. They are not a claim to match the difficulty of every official shift.
The resource section links to a labelled AglaSem collection of JEE Main papers and the official JEE Main website for examination notices.
Check the model or theorem, its assumptions, algebra and units separately. A correct formula used outside its conditions can still give an incorrect answer.
